Beckley Travel Plaza celebrates opening
BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) -Gov. Jim Justice joined other local and state leaders for a ribbon cutting Monday evening to celebrate the opening of the new West Virginia Turnpike’s Beckley Travel Plaza.
Located off of exit 45 on I-77, the plaza closed last February to start demolition and construction.
The update facility now includes a Wendy’s, Starbucks, Popeyes and ‘Mountain State Market’ that features local and regional gourmet foods, a grab-and-go food bar, and much more.
The building also includes a Tamarack Artisan Shop that highlights work from West Virginia artist.
Along with this project the revamp effort included Mercer County’s Bluestone Travel Plaza that is still under constructed.
Last February, the West Virginia Parkways Authority approved a contract with Paramount Builders LLC, of St. Albans for $122,820.381.53 to update both travel plazas also known as the “two glass houses” according to Gov. Jim Justice.
The Governor says this project not only helps travelers rest, relax, and recharge but is a way to showcase what all West Virginia has to offer.
“This not only services all the travelers, but it also acts as a marketing tool like none other,” said Gov. Justice.
