Beloved family cat travels 800 miles to return home after going missing in Yellowstone

SALINAS, Calif. (KSBW) – A California couple has been reunited with their cat after he went missing while on a trip to Yellowstone National Park.

After two months and out in the elements, the feline has made his way back home, traveling more than 800 miles.

Benny and Susanne Anguiano spent days searching the forest area around Yellowstone after their cat Rayne Beau got away while they were camping.

The couple said they got help from park rangers and other campers, but Rayne Beau was nowhere to be found.

“We had to leave without him,” Susanne Anguiano said. “That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him.”

After 60 days the couple said they could only hope their cat was still out there.

“Then a message popped up from Pet Watch with an identifying microchip,” Benny Anguiano said.

A woman in Roseville ended up finding Rayne Beau and took him to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

“He was really depleted. He probably didn’t have a lot of energy to maybe even go further. So, the lady who found him and rescued him is just an angel,” Susanne Anguiano said. “He looked like he was not going to make it much longer.”

But how did Rayne Beau survive two months seemingly alone and make it from Yellowstone to Roseville — over 800 miles?

The Anguianos said they’re hoping someone may know, but they are happy to have their little guy back home.

They also say Rayne Beau’s story is an important reminder for pet owners to get their pets microchipped.
