Bento Box Entertainment develops Gumby Kids

Classic clay character Gumby will return to the small screen in a new 2D-animated kids series, according to Deadline. FOX-owned Bento Box Entertainment is reportedly developing a 52 x 11-minute toon concept called Gumby Kids that will target eight- to 12-year-olds.

Behind the premise, which sees Gumby flexing his creativity as chief architect of a city that’s home to outcasts and dreamers from fantastical realms, is writer Deeki Deke (The Cuphead Show!). She’s also an executive producer on the project, along with former Hasbro CCO Stephen Davis and Will Davis from Still Entertainment. Davis and Dana Cameron (Bento’s head of production) will be shopping Gumby Kids to potential buyers and co-pro partners at Annecy next week.

Created in the ’50s by animator Art Clokey, the Gumby franchise centers around a green humanoid character made out of clay and his pony bestie. FOX has been mapping out plans to revive the legacy brand since it acquired the rights to the Gumby universe back in 2022.

Gumby has starred in numerous screen iterations over the years, including NBC series The Gumby Show (1955) and a 1995 stop-motion cult comedy film called Gumby: The Movie.
