Best director front-runners dish on Hollywood in Oscars roundtable

We’re just a few weeks away from the announcement of this year’s Academy Award nominations for the 2025 ceremony.

In Spectrum News’ “The Envelope Roundtables” produced by LA Times Studios, acclaimed directors Edward Berger (“Conclave”), Denis Villeneuve (“Dune: Part Two”), Coralie Fargeat (“The Substance”), Malcolm Washington (“The Piano Lesson”), Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”) and James Mangold (“A Complete Unknown”) open up about their awards-caliber films.

One of the most talked-about films this year is Corbet’s “The Brutalist.” He discussed his 215-minute feature that chronicles the journey of a refugee architect in post-World War II America

“For me, there is something about the role of an architect and a filmmaker — they’re very similar in a way because it’s not like painting a painting or, you know, writing or recording a song in a private space,” said Corbet to the group. “It requires 250 people or 300 people. It’s a lot of personnel.”
