Best Penguins By Jersey Number: #54
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ organizational history has a plethora of great players, and we’ve decided to go through the best Penguins’ players to wear each jersey number. Today, we continue the list by naming the best #54 in Penguins’ history.
Only two players have worn #54, and neither of them played very many NHL games. In fact, Thomas Di Pauli only played in two NHL games in 2020.
So we’re gonna go with the other guy, defenseman Alexandre Picard.
Picard was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2003 NHL Draft. He debuted in the league in 2005-06, but his breakout season occured in 2006-07, when he registered three goals and 22 points in 62 games.
He spent the first three seasons of his career with the Flyers before bouncing around to Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Carolina, Montreal, and – finally, in his last NHL season – Pittsburgh.
Picard appeared in only 17 games for the Penguins in 2011-12, registering four assists. Over the course of his seven-year NHL career, he registered 19 goals and 69 points in 253 games. After spending several years playing in both the KHL and in Europe, Picard retired from professional hockey in 2019.
