Betting analysis: Oklahoma vs. Tulane gambling angles & picks
It’s a game of sneaky importance coming up this weekend. The Oklahoma Sooners welcome the Tulane Green Wave to town for an intriguing week three matchup.
Each week here on Sooners Illustrated, we breakdown the betting angles for every Oklahoma outing. Here’s a look at the gambling aspects of this game between OU and Tulane.
Trends to consider: Tulane is 2-0 against the spread at the start of this season. Oklahoma is split 1-1 against the number. Also worth noting, Tulane is 10-2 in its last 12 road games. Meanwhile, Oklahoma has been a double digit favorite in all nine home games since the start of the 2023 season and has a 6-2 record against the spread.
As for the total, the under is 2-0 in Oklahoma games to start the Sooners’ season. Tulane has seen the over and under split 1-1 over the last two contests.
Game spread: Oklahoma favored by 13.5 points
Analysis- Oklahoma’s defense is very good. But that unit’s job is to keep teams at bay, not separate? The Sooners’ offense has to get things going offensively in order to cover this two touchdown spread and just last week, they struggled to score two touchdowns in general. Will this Oklahoma offense see it click in week three? Because Tulane is the type of team that can hang around until the very end. That in mind, this has close game written all over it. Trends previously mentioned aside, Tulane has a history of playing teams tough while finding success on the road. The Green Wave carry a 10-straight away game win streak into Norman and the last time Tulane visited Oklahoma, these two battled it out. That was obviously a very different Tulane team and program, but this is clearly a different Oklahoma until proven otherwise.
CK’s play- Tulane covers +13.5
Confidence level- 5.0/10

Game total: Over/under 46.5 combined points scored
Analysis- This number gets blown up if OU’s offense shows up and has a good day. But if that unit maintains recent trend, then this number will pretty much relay on Tulane’s offensive output. What’s known, though, is that Oklahoma’s defense is a very good group. Will the Green Wave find some ways to score with consistency? Does Tulane have it in itself to get the ball in the endzone on multiple possessions against this OU defensive group that’s full of talent and depth? That’s not the best bet, and if Oklahoma’s offense can’t bring much to the table, finding a way to hit the over seems difficult. Again, this all gets turned upside down if OU gets things going offensively. But especially considering injuries, it still feels hard to fathom. A point total that relies almost strictly on a Tulane group facing OU’s defensive doesn’t feel bet worthy.
CK’s play- Under 46.5 combined points scored
