Betting analysis: South Carolina vs. Oklahoma gambling angles & picks

This weekend, Oklahoma returns home for an 11:45 a.m. CT in-conference kickoff. The Sooners face South Carolina inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in what feels like a defining moment for the season.

This game will draw the attention of several across the college football landscape. Some diehards, some casual fans, but plenty are likely bettors looking for ways to approach this matchup.

Each week here on Sooners Illustrated, we breakdown the betting angles for every Oklahoma football outing. Here’s a look at the gambling aspects of this game between OU and South Carolina.

Game spread: South Carolina favored by one point

Analysis- This number started with Oklahoma being the favorite by about four points. But after a slight drop down to 3.5, this line has now shifted away from the Sooners and into South Carolina’s direction. It tells you that there’s still a struggle by several to identify ways Oklahoma can actually score.

The Sooners will likely be without wide receiver Deion Burks again after being listed ‘questionable’ ahead of kickoff. That keeps a dynamic playmaker away from the field yet again, leaving OU still searching for a difference maker on offense. It almost doesn’t matter what offensive statistic you think of, the Sooners are more than likely towards the bottom of that metric. But anything and everything could change for Oklahoma in this game, quite literally.

This has the feel of a game that Oklahoma could pull out all the stops. Whether it’s trick plays and new looks to try and get things going offensively, or even switching quarterbacks again if needed, there’s reason to believe the Sooners will embrace chaos. Playing at home, at a critical time in the season, OU is basically playing for its season and might look like a team doing exactly that. That in-mind, don’t be surprised if Oklahoma finds a way.

Game total: Over/under 41 combined points scored

Analysis- So, there’s been discussion in this piece about Oklahoma’s offense. It’s not a great group, but OU might be willing to do whatever it takes to generate a spark. But the term ‘spark’ is certainly subjective as reaching anything above 20 points seems farfetched for the Sooners. South Carolina has a pretty good unit offensively, but a reason OU has hope is that its talented defense gets to play on its homefield and face a redshirt freshman quarterback. LaNorris Sellers has played well at times this season but he’s also no stranger to mistakes. If both teams do end up facing adversity at the signal caller spot, and both fairly strong defenses capitalize, putting points on the board could prove difficult.
