‘BHM 5 Food Drive’: Birmingham sports teams partner to help combat hunger in central Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Five local Birmingham sports teams are partnering again this year to help combat hunger in central Alabama.
The Birmingham Stallions, Squadron, Legion, Barons, and Bulls are coming together for the BHM 5 Food Drive where people can donate items for those in need throughout the month of November at multiple locations.
The teams will deliver the items donated to the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama Nov. 27 just in time for the holiday season.
The Birmingham Bulls, who recently began their 2024-2025 season, will be accepting donations during a home game at the Pelham Civic Complex later this month.
Donations will be accepted from Nov. 7- Nov. 25 at the following locations:
- Birmingham Stallions
- Eventive Sports | 600 Luckie Drive, Suite 100, Birmingham AL 35223 | M-F 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Birmingham Squadron
- 950 22nd Street North | Suite 925, Birmingham, AL | M-F 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Birmingham Legion
- Legion offices | Sports Store | 2226 1st Ave S, Suite 101, Birmingham, AL 35233 | M-F 8 a.m.– 5 p.m.
- Birmingham Barons
- Barons Sports Depot | 1401 1st Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233 | T-Fr 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Birmingham Bulls
- Friday, November 22 vs. Macon Mayhem| Pelham Civic Complex | 500 Amphitheater Road, Pelham AL 35124
The food dive items that are most needed are located below:
*** Officials encourage donations to be healthy, low-fat, low-sodium, and low-sugar ***
- Canned meat
- Chicken, tuna, salmon, etc.
- Canned vegetables
- Canned Fruit or applesauce
- Canned or boxed meals
- Chef Boyardee, beef stew, etc.
- Boxed mac & cheese
- Potato flakes
- Peanut butter and other nut butter
- Pasta, rice, quinoa or other healthy carbohydrates
- Breakfast cereals, oatmeal, grits, and other breakfast foods
- 100% fruit juice
- Canned, plastic bottles, or boxes
- Shelf-stable milk
- Dairy or non-dairy alternatives such as oat, almond, coconut, etc.
*** Officials ask that you AVOID sodas, candy, junk food, alcoholic beverages, homemade items, open/used items, items in a glass container, perishable products ***
