Biden says ‘Black jobs’ after Democrats blasted Trump over phrase

WASHINGTON (TND) — President Joe Biden on Friday referred to “Black jobs” during a public address just weeks after the term led to substantial criticism for former President Donald Trump.

Trump suggested during a discussion with the National Black Journalist Association in July that migrants were coming into the U.S. to steal Black jobs. When asked to define the term, Trump said “a Black job is anybody that has a job.”

Democrats, journalists and other critics became irate over Trump’s comment, interpreting it to mean Black workers were limited to certain field of employment.

“For starters, there are no Black jobs in the U.S., because there is not any kind of racial requirement for employment,” Axios wrote. “Black people have all kinds of jobs from vice president to hedge fund bro to journalist and so on.”

“Another day, another racist insult from Trump,” a video from Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign said. “Speaking of Black jobs, I have a Black job for you: Making sure the guy who said ‘Black jobs’ never becomes president again.”

Despite the backlash, Biden used the term while speaking at a White House “Black Excellence” event.

“In just three-and-a-half years we’ve created over two million Black jobs for Black Americans and Black—,” Biden said.

The president then held up his hand as the crowd applauded and laughed.

“By the way, the next Black job to be filled is as president of United States of America,” he added.

The move follows Biden’s decision to briefly don a “Trump 2024” hat while visiting a fire department in Shanksville, Pa. this week. During that appearance, he joked about Trump’s claim Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio are “eating dogs and cats.”
