Former President Donald Trump has moved ahead of President Joe Biden after the first presidential debate debacle, the first national poll since the CNN event revealed. The presumptive Republican nominee currently leads his Democratic opponent by one percentage point, according to a Morning Consult poll released Monday. It showed fewer voters than ever see the 81-year-old commander in chief as mentally fit.

Biden is facing a lot of heat following his flop show at the presidential debate. Democrats reportedly asked him to step away from the 2024 race. The Morning Consult poll revealed that Trump is now leading with 44% support and Biden is at 43%. The survey took inputs of more than 10,000 registered voters, conducted between June 28 and June 30.

The same poll had Biden leading Trump by one percentage point as of June 16 – prior to the debate, which was held on June 23.

In remarks referring to the new poll, the pollster said: “The relative stasis in the race suggests Biden’s alarming debate performance might not have surprised voters as much as it surprised Democrats in Washington.”

The latest numbers only show voters’ concerns over Biden’s mental and physical health. Only 37% of voters said the president is mentally fit for office – down 6 points from Morning Consult’s last pre-debate survey.

The poll further added that 68% of Democratic voters believe Joe Biden is fit enough to serve, which is a stunning 9 point drop from before the debate. “Both numbers are the lowest on record,” according to the outlet.
