Binghamton power plant project to bring at least 40 jobs to First Ward

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Binghamton officials announced new developments at the former First Ward Power Plant on Charles Street on Tuesday.

Firomar Incorporated is set to invest $4.6 million in building improvements and new equipment.

The firm is aiming to create 40 local clean energy jobs with the chance for that number to grow as phases of the project are completed.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said the jobs for the project will be kept locally.

“Those 40 jobs those individuals are going to eat lunch at the Clinton Street Cafe and when something breaks down here, they’re going to go to Kovariks to get a piece of equipment to fix it,” Kraham explained.

He added that the workers will probably find themselves at the Old Union Hotel for a beer after work.

Kraham noted that the benefits of the project will be felt throughout all of the First Ward.

Production is set to begin in early 2025.
