Bingo business cases still playing out in Bessemer court

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Alabama Attorney General’s Office raided bingo businesses across Jefferson County over a year ago. Eight of those cases are still playing out in court.

Eight cases were transferred to the Bessemer division and at one point dismissed until the state Supreme Court reversed that decision. The goal for the state is to shut the businesses down completely.

On Monday, the state was hoping to tie up any loose ends in the cases and learn whether or not the state would be able to get a preliminary injunction to keep the bingo businesses closed. The A.G.’S Office said most of the places have reached agreements with the state to close voluntarily.

An additional court date has been set for July 22 for any case that is not resolved between now and then and will require additional time.
