Birdies and Barrels Business Still Planned | News#
Even though people haven’t seen any progress recently at the Watson’s Drug Store building in downtown Greenville, it doesn’t mean the business isn’t coming.
Greenville City Manager Jo Hollenkamp told WGEL the project is further along than it’s ever been.
WGO Investments plans to have a sports bar/restaurant in the building, using the lower two levels for the business and the top level for apartments.
According to Hollenkamp, the company is still working with architects to develop blueprints, and those blueprints are necessary for the city to issue a building permit.
The city manager noted that Tim O’Donnell, from the company, has reported that a lot of equipment for the business has already been purchased.
The Greenville City Council took action recently to award a contract for the demolition of two buildings in the downtown area.
The city owns the former Dollar General building at the intersection of South and Third streets, and the former Fusion Dance Center building on North Second Street.
The low bid of $79,900, from Precision Excavation and Construction at Louisville, Illinois, was accepted by the council. There were three other bidders with the highest being $127,000.
The city will use the property at the old Dollar General location for a parking lot. The other building is in the area of the new downtown plaza to be constructed.
