Black Friday puts Louisville customers in a shopping mood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – If predictions are correct, shoppers this year will spend a few percentage points more on holiday shopping than last year.

Louisville area Black Friday shoppers said retailers appeared to be taking notice by offering better deals than last year.

“I came into this with $500 and I have a good $100 left over,” Maliyah Jones said pointing to an arm load of shopping bags. “And as you can see, we got a lot.”

Beyond the deals, shoppers in general appeared to be in a better mood to spend.

Owner Amy Hall said she has been fielding inquiries for a month now from customers interested in buying back pieces of their childhood.

“Everybody’s talking about coming out Christmas shopping,” Hall said. “It should be a pretty good Christmas season. We’re all stocked up. We are ready to go.”

And we found customers out and about on Black Friday, also ready to go. The seasonal Brent Street Market in Paristown was busy. Retail analysts find that in-person shopping still beats shopping online when it comes to impulse buys.

Wanda Mattingly said she finished her shopping list in October. For her, shopping on Black Friday this year was just for fun.

“It’s fantastic,” Mattingly said. “Actually, it’s freezing, but it’s enjoyable. I love it.”
