Blue Bombers track falls to Beekmantown | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKE PLACID — Competing for the first time at home, the Lake Placid track and field team suffered a loss to the Beekmantown Eagles on Thursday evening.

The Blue Bomber boys were topped 108-33, while the girls had a close meet, falling 87-41. Despite falling the team posted some solid individual performances and many personal bests.

Sophomore Kai McKinnon had a solid performance for the girls team, winning three events. McKinnon won the 1,500-meter in 5 minutes, 23 seconds and topped the 800-meter field in 2:44.

She also ran a leg in the 1,600 relay, alongside Pia Morrelli, Zarela Gulli and Clara Boutelle. The Lake Placid girls swept the distance events with Harley Cohen winning the 3,000-meter in 15:25.

Lily Jones, a senior, placed first in the high jump clearing 4 feet. She also finished in second place in the shot put, with a throw of 26 feet, 6 inches.

The Beekmantown girls won 11 out of the 16 events.

On the boys side, Aidan Fay led the Blue Bombers by winning two events. Fay won the 800 in 2:09 and ran a leg in the 1,600-meter relay team, alongside Jesse Marshall, Jim Guglielmi and Ethan Cash.

Freshman Jesse Carlson earned the other solo victory for Lake Placid, topping the 3,200 field in 13:03. Sean Roth finished in second place in the 100- and 200-meter with personal best times of 11.7 and 24.5, respectively.

The Eagles swept the sprint, jumping and throwing events en route to the victory.

The Blue Bomber track teams are slated to host the AuSable Valley Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lake Placid will host one more meet this season and the Section VII championship in May.

The Lake Placid girls tennis team defeated the Northern Adirondack Bobcats 4-1 on the road Thursday afternoon. The boys squad suffered a 3-2 loss, dropping to 2-1 overall.

The Blue Bomber girls swept all three doubles matches en route to the win. Nadia Philip and Kayden Glascock topped Aubrey Pickreign and Cierra McDonald 6-1, 6-0. Lake Placid’s Danna Perez and Raquel Arreaza beat Bella LaBombard and Allie Nelson 6-6, 6-6, 7-5 (7-5) and Jenna Audlin and Fiona Sullivan defeated Charlize Davies and Kenna LaBarre 6-0, 6-0.

The Blue Bombers’ number one singles player, Laura Leon, tallied a victory after a Northern Adirondack player had to withdraw because of an injury she suffered during warm-up.

In the other singles match, Northern Adirondack’s Emily Hatch topped Jennifer Giroux in straight sets by 6-1 and 6-0 scores. With the win, the girls team improved to 2-1.

On the boys side, Lake Placid’s singles players, Henry Becker and Soren Jacobson earned wins, while all three of the team’s doubles squads fell.

Becker defeated Izek Guay 6-2, 6-2, while Jacobson topped Kacy Hatch 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Northern Adirondack’s Kingston Tucker and Parker Manor topped Nash Carlisto and Parker Scanio 6-4, 6-3. The Blue Bombers’ Owen Keal and Porter Dominesey fell to Ayden Wyre and Shane Gilmore 7-5, 6-0 and Colden Damour and Ian Munson were defeated by Tristan Craig and Kaleb Guay 6-2, 6-0.

Lake Placid will host the Seton Catholic Knights on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
