Bob on Business: Fort Worth to see million apartment complex rise on Jones Street | Fort Worth Report

The construction of a multifamily development in downtown Fort Worth that has seen some delays seems to be back on track again.

Resia, headquartered in Miami, plans to construct a $61 million, 12-story apartment complex at 1000 Jones St. The company also filed permits for a 10-story $12.9 million parking garage next door. Both projects are estimated to be complete by February 2027.

Previous designs for the project have indicated it will consist of about 240 apartments. Those designs have also included retail space on the ground floor of the project.

The location is in the south end of downtown, where Texas A&M-Fort Worth is under construction and the Fort Worth Convention Center is in its first phase of renovations.

The location is directly between Fort Worth Central Station and the convention center. Plans call for a paseo or public corridor between the parking garage and the apartment building that would include retail sites.

Dallas and Fort Worth are hot in 2025

Dallas and Fort Worth are projected to be the hottest overall market for real estate in the new year, according to a new report from the Urban Land Institute and PwC.

While many here have bemoaned the increases in home prices, the report notes that Dallas-area home prices have increased almost 38% since the first quarter of 2020, but “they are still roughly in line with Redfin’s national median sale price of just under $400,000.”

Other Texas cities in the top 15 overall real estate market are Houston, No. 3; San Antonio, No. 13; and Austin, No. 15.

UTA Libraries offering patent, trademark information

The University of Texas at Arlington Libraries has been designated as a Patent and Trademark Resource Center by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This enables UTA Libraries to offer comprehensive trademark and patent services to the campus community, Arlington and the area.

“This designation conveniently provides patent and trademark research resources to both our academic community and the general public, enabling product and technological innovation, research, and commercialization,” John Wang, dean of UTA Libraries, said in a statement.

This new service will be housed in the Day Family Research Lab, located in room 510 of the UTA Central Library.

“Our librarians will receive training from the United States Patent and Trademark Office on the best ways to access USPTO resources and provide those resources to our community,” said John Bayhi, UTA’s director of research services. “We will support inventors and entrepreneurs in navigating the process of finding existing patents or trademarks, walking through the application process, and connecting to a directory of patent attorneys.”

The Day Family Research Lab will expand its educational offerings to include workshops on topics relevant to inventors and entrepreneurs using USPTO tools and resources. The first of these workshops, Discovering Patents: Effective Search Techniques in USPTO, will occur from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 3.

Currently, the only other Patent and Trademark Resource Center in North Texas is at the Dallas Public Library.
