Bond increased for man accused of firing shots near sports complex

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Bond has been increased for a man accused of firing a number of shots near the Shawnee Sports Complex in May, according to information from Kanawha County Circuit Court.

Zion Clark, who’s in his early 20s, appeared Tuesday before Circuit Judge Maryclaire Akers.

Judicial officials say Clark was improperly released in December 2023 due to a misunderstanding about two $10,000 surety bonds, which led to him being released on one $10,000 bond posting.

Clark was out on that improper bond when he was arrested in connection with the shooting incident at Shawnee Sports Complex in May. Two other men also were arrested in connection with the shots fired.

Despite the number of shots fired, no one was injured.

On Tuesday, Judge Akers set a new collective cash-only $150,000 for all the charges that Clark faces.
