Boost For Oklahoma: American Airlines To Add More Than 300 New Jobs To Tulsa Maintenance Base

American Airlines is adding more than 300 jobs to the Tulsa maintenance base.

These 321 jobs are in addition to 300 more that were announced earlier this year thanks to a grant from the state.

“It’s time for us to start adding into our Tulsa base location because of our fleet growth and needs for our maintenance organization is continuing to grow,” said Greg Emerson with American Airlines.

Emerson says of the new jobs, 227 will be licensed airframe maintenance technicians who work on the shell of the airplane.

The rest of the jobs will be roles in management, supply chain, engineering, and people who work on smaller parts of the interior of the plane.

“In conjunction with that work, we also have seats, galleys, flight controls, other components, engines, that come off of those airplanes, that end up having to be worked in our back shops here at this base,” he said.

Emerson says the state has really put a focus on the aviation industry in the past decade and when American is able to add more jobs, it only helps Tulsa.

“It’s really good to see that as we continue to grow there’s plenty of resources available to us, good schools like Tulsa Tech, that are providing those resources for us, and it really stimulates the economy here in Tulsa as well,” he said.

The airline will also add jobs in Pittsburgh and Charlotte.
