BORGER, Texas (KFDA) – The Borger City Council has approved the Scope of Work between the Borger Economic Development Corp. and 828 Sports Development Group.

“This isn’t uncommon for us to say, ‘Hey we want you, we support you, you know we want to keep you in our community.’ So that was one of the deciding factors and so we pay them $100,000 a year over the course of 10 years as an incentive to help them choose our community,” said Amy Fesser, executive director for Borger Economic Development Corporation.

The design phase has started with architects and Borger EDC coming together to start working on the layout and infrastructure.

“We’re putting the pieces together as it pertains to civil engineers and all the bells and whistles that need to go into the initial site plan in order to make this a reality. So that’s kicked off and we have a team that’s been developing,” said said DeAngelo Simmons, CEO of 828 Sports Development Group.

The money that the Borger EDC requested from city council will be refundable and the EDC officials say this project hits all the markers.

“It’s going to bring a lot of sales tax dollars, it’s going to bring a lot of tourism dollars, it’s going to create a lot of jobs, it’s going to create a lot of diversification. There’s a big education component to this. It’s a part of that, it’s a holistic approach to economic development,” said Fesser.

Officials say the next steps are working on infrastructure, utilities and a timeline for the $100 million project.
