Boy Kills World Digital Release Date Set for Bill Skarsgard Action Comedy
Lionsgate’s latest action-thriller comedy Boy Kills World will soon be available on digital and video-on-demand. This comes after nearly a month since the Bill Skarsgård-led movie had its official theatrical release.
Prior to its theatrical debut, Boy Kills World had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Despite its promising premise, the film wasn’t able to impress lots of critics, as it currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 148 reviews. However, since the film has an average Audience Score of 71%, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are looking to make the movie more accessible to moviegoers who haven’t had the chance to see it in theaters. Per Bloody Disgusting, the R-rated film will now be available to rent or buy on digital platforms starting next week on Tuesday, May 28 for the suggested retail price of $24.99.
Boy Kills World Featurette Highlights Ultra-Violent ‘Genocide on Ice’ Scene
Exclusive: A new look at Boy Kills World showcases the film’s “Winter Wonderland,” described as the “most insane Oompa-Loompa playground there is.”
The official synopsis for Boy Kills World reads, “The film follows Boy, who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy, the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless. Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents. Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting. As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.”
Boy Kills World was directed by Moritz Mohr, who first started developing the project eight years ago. Besides the John Wick: Chapter 4 actor, the cast also included Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) as June 27, Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) as Melanie van der Koy, Andrew Koji (Warrior) as Basho, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Glen van der Koy, Famke Janssen (X-Men: The Last Stand) as Hilda van der Koy, Brett Gelman (Stranger Things) as Gideon van der Koy, Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two) as Benny, and Yayan Ruhian (The Raid) as a shaman. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi produced the movie alongside It producer Roy Lee. According to Raimi, it took a long time for them to find a distributor and financier because investors felt that the story was “so outrageous, and so not normal.”

Bill Skarsgård’s The Crow Remake Gets Backlash Ahead of Debut
Following his leading performance in Boy Kills World, Skarsgård is reuniting with Lionsgate for the upcoming reboot of the 1994 cult classic The Crow, which will premiere on Aug. 23, 2025. The Swedish actor will take on the titular role of Eric Draven, who was originally played by the late Brandon Lee. When the remake’s first official trailer was released, it received an immediate push back from fans and the original movie’s director, Alex Proyas.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers’ work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film,” Proyas said. “So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. THE CROW is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain.”
