Breakfast at Roseberry’s: Doja Cat brings her cig holder to Schiaparelli

Doja Cat just can’t seem to kick the habit. Back in 2022, the rap superstar almost missed picking up an award onstage at the Grammys because she was too busy vaping in the bathroom. Last year at the Met Gala, she arrived at the event dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette, while doing the very un-Choupette act of puffing on another vape while waiting to ascend the red carpet steps. And now, at Couture Week’s AW24 edition, Doja has chucked out the vapes entirely and instead returned to the warm embrace of a good old cigarette. Someone’s clearly been following Cigfluencers.

The rapper arrived outside Schiaparelli’s latest show in Paris this morning puffing on the cig – but Doja is a star, remember, and stars don’t touch fags. Clutched between the fingers of her taloned hands was a golden cigarette holder, ash falling to the ground as she waved at the crowds of fans and photographers screaming her name. The whole thing was very Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but if Holly Golightly had a secret side hustle where she rapped about her wet vagina. But watching Doja outside the show, the case for bringing back the cig holder was very strong, reconfiguring it as a relic from some bygone era into a buzzy accessory you’d see in a club smoking area.

Elsewhere on the Parisian cobbles, regular Schiaparelli face Kylie Jenner arrived to the scene in a corseted pink creation and a matching face veil, a teaser from the collection we were about to see; OG Gossip Girl mom Kelly Rutherford was also back, wearing a drapey cream gown from SS24; and Swedish street style obsessive and couture collector Fredrik Robertsson arrived clutching the switchboard robo-baby Maggie Maurer carried down the runway last season.

As for this season’s show, things were cloaked in a little more secrecy this time, as unlike previous years, creative director Daniel Roseberry decided not to livestream the show for the legions of Schiap stans waiting to be fed. Despite this, Roseberry delivered a stellar catwalk with voluminous faux-zebra jumpsuits, enormous silver archangel wings and multi-coloured variations of the veil Jenner debuted outside. Maurer also returned to the runway this season, confirming her muse status in a black column gown with intricately detailed silver shoulder pads and gloves. Elsewhere, Roseberry dotted prickly rose thorns on dresses and legs, referenced measuring tape markings on lapels and jacket closures – but the standout piece had to be a dusty pink corset dress with two upturned stilettos as the bra cups. Expect to see that soon, on a red carpet near you.
