Bridge Sports Complex set to host first ever Weather the Storm Triathlon

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – This weekend the Bridge Sports Complex will be hosting it’s inaugural Weather the Storm Triathlon. The race will feature three different stages in swimming, cycling, and running; testing athletes’ resilience and overall competitive drive. This is the first ever triathlon of it’s kind to be held at the Bridge and officials anticipate a great turnout. Alyson Piot, the Business Development Coordinator at the Bridge, feel this event is a great showcasing for the excellent types of athletes that reside right here in North Central West Virginia.

” We decided to put this on to push people outside of their comfort zones, A lot of times we have members coming here that excel in one sport, so we thought why not try to push them to try something new. What we’ve noticed since doing this is we have a lot of runners, and we had a lot of people complain about swim and they’re very nervous about the swim. So, it’s been nice having members come utilize our pool and really practice.”

This weekend’s opportunity presents athletes with the perfect environment to test themselves, no matter of experience or age.

” We have over one hundred and forty participants between the super sprint, the sprint, the relay, and the kid’s race. I feel like our youngest participant in the kids’ race is four years old and I know we have at least one person at age seventy. So, we do have all ages here participating.”

The event is open to the public and officials want to encourage those who are willing and able to come out and support fellow community members, free of charge.

” The event is free; we are looking for the community to come out and cheer on the participants. We are blocking off the parking lot, the only parking lot to be open is the first one. They’re welcome to park there and they’re welcome the course and cheer on the athletes.”
