Browns vs. Broncos score, live updates: Monday Night Football is a mile high in Week 13 as Cleveland visits Denver

The Denver Broncos have quietly been a brick wall on defense this year. They’re third in the league in both total defense and scoring defense and enter Week 13 leading the NFL in sacks. While great defenses on perhaps unexpected playoff contenders don’t often get a lot of press, rookie quarterbacks who may lead their teams to the playoffs do. Enter Bo Nix, who has been solid for much of his rookie season, completing nearly 65% of his passes and throwing just six interceptions in 399 pass attempts. Defense and not turning the ball over has been a working strategy for the 7-5 Broncos, who head into Monday Night Football holding one of the AFC wild-card spots.

They’ll take on a Jameis Winston-led Cleveland Browns team that’s riding a wave of confidence, if nothing else. They’ve beaten both the Ravens and Steelers over the past few weeks and seem to have something cooking with Winston’s energy under center. They’ll look to play spoiler again with the national spotlight on them after last week’s Thursday night win in a Cleveland snow globe.

Live9 updates

  • Broncos strike first for 7-0 lead

A drop by Courtland Sutton threatened to short-circuit Denver’s second possession. But Bo Nix went right back to Sutton on third-and-6 to convert a first down en route to a touchdown. Denver’s 12-play, 63-yard drive ends with a 1-yard touchdown run by Javonte Williams.

Denver leads, 7-0 with 4:13 left in the first quarter.

  • Browns come up empty after big Jerry Jeudy gain

Cleveland’s opening drive stalled out after Jerry Jeudy’s 44-yard gain on the Browns’ first play from scrimmage. The Browns settled for a 47-yard field-goal attempt that Dustin Hopkins missed wide left.

  • Jerry Jeudy strikes early against his former team

Jerry Jeudy figured to play a big role in his return to Denver. The Browns made sure he got involved early. Jeudy caught a first-down pass from Jameis Winston on Cleveland’s opening play and ran down the right sideline for a 44-yard gain.

The Broncos drafted Jeudy in the first round of the 2020 draft and traded him last offseason to the Browns for a pair of late-round draft picks.

  • Broncos go 3 and out on opening drive

The Browns stuff a third-and-3 run by Javonte Williams, and the Broncos punt after failing to gain a first down on their opening possession. Cleveland starts at its own 10-yard line after a 61-yard punt and eight-yard return from the 2-yard line.

  • The Broncos start with the ball at their 30-yard line after a touchback on the opening kickoff.

  • Jameis Winston is out here doing Jameis Winston things:

  • Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II is showing some Heisman Trophy love for two-way Colorado standout Travis Hunter:

  • Browns inactives: Cedric Tillman is out

Cedric Tillman is among the inactives for the Browns. Cleveland’s No. 2 receiver didn’t practice this week after sustaining a concussion in Week 12.

  • Broncos inactives are in

Denver’s inactives are in with no notable surprises. Staring cornerback Riley Moss is out with a knee (MCL) injury suffered last week against the Raiders.
