BEA 5, Fairmont 2

It took two days, but the Blue Earth Area girls tennis team triumphed over the Fairmont Cardinals 5-2.

The meet was originally scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29. However, because of expected rain showers, the meet was moved up to 2 p.m. instead.

The teams managed to complete four of the seven matches before rain halted the action on Thursday and it was decided to complete the contest the next day.

“Heading into Friday, we were up 3-1,” BEA coach Spencer Monson said. “Our No. 3 doubles team was heading into their third set. Addi (Addison Prescher) was down a set at No. 1 singles, but was up 4-2 in the second set. She then fell behind 4-5 before coming back to win the next nine games straight.”

The two teams split the singles matches while the Bucs swept the doubles matches.

“This was a fun match because we are two pretty evenly matched young teams,” Monson commented. “The growth of our doubles teams showed in this match. Their level of play was what helped us pull the match out.”

Fairmont’s two wins came at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

In the No. 1 singles match, the Cards’ Emelia Klanderud defeated Grace Hanson 6-1, 6-0.

Fairmont’s Ella Wubbena got by BEA’s Abigail Greff 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 singles match.

BEA’s Prescher rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alison Slama in the No. 2 singles match.
