SAN JOSE, CA — A bus driver is charged with murder after killing a coworker over gambling debts at a public transit parking lot, according to reports.

Duc Minh Bui fatally shot Regulus Teotico shortly before 10 p.m. Friday at a Valley Transportation Authority bus yard in the 2200 block of South 7th Street in San Jose, reports said.

The attack was prompted by money owed from gambling, KRON reported, adding VTA CEO Carolyn Gonot described Teotico as a longtime bus driver and father of two teens.

This latest incident of workplace violence comes more than three years after a May 2021 mass shooting in which nine VTA employees were killed after a disgruntled worker opened fire in a break room, according to KRON.

In the wake of last week’s shooting, the transit authority has increased security at all its facilities and is offering access to mental health professionals for employees and their families.
