Business blooms for local florists ahead of Mother’s Day

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KFVS) – Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and business is blooming in the Heartland as shoppers search for that perfect gift for mom.

Local florists have a bouquet of ideas for you.

“Mother’s Day is a really good holiday, that and Valentine’s Day are our best days,” said Chaundra Mason.

Chaundra Mason is the owner of Mason Grace Boutique and Florist in Scott City. Mason said the last few days have been extremely busy.

“This year it seems like a lot of people are doing fresh,” Mason said.

According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend more than $33B on gifts this Mother’s Day nationwide.

Some shoppers spent their Friday contributing to that total here in the Heartland. Some are celebrating women in their lives who have been mothers for years, like Ron Klovatn, who was shopping for his wife.

“We have 11 kids,” said Klovatn.

While shoppers like Luke Berblinger find themselves starting new traditions this Mother’s Day.

“I’m out shopping for my wife. We just had our first child last week, so it’s a really special one for us,” said Berblinger.

Both Klovatn and Berblinger both said it’s all about making moms feel appreciated.

“Moms are very important to the family, you know, she’s been my big supporter,” said Klovatn.

“She went through a lot of hard work to become a mom, and I witnessed it firsthand. So just, you know, paying my respects and showing how special she is,” said Berblinger.

Mason said she is grateful to be a part of that.

“Me being a mother of five, it’s very important and I’m honored to send out flowers for people,” said Mason.

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 12.
