Business owner hopes for better economic future after food truck broken into
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A business owner is trying to regroup after his food truck was robbed late Friday night.
Now, after years of creating businesses for Memphians to have food options he has to start over from scratch.
Keedran Franklin is the owner of Pizza Dis Pizza Dat food truck.
He said he was not just angry but sad when he walked into his food truck and saw nearly everything was gone.
“I walk to my truck and open it up and I’m like dang. Them folks took everything, you know. Almost everything,” said Franklin.
Franklin said his food truck, Pizza Dis Pasta Dat, was broken into and several items were taken when the truck was parked in Midtown behind Growlers.
“When I get to the back door, I could smell smoke and I could see a pot that looks like my mixing bowl off my truck,” he said.
He said this all happened right after he secured a 1-year residency position with his food truck at Overton Park Shell.
He said his influence on the community and culture in Memphis helped bring him opportunities like that, but now that is all on pause.
“This one kind of put a halt, this theft situation put a halt to like what we are doing,” Franklin said.
The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission reports that property crime in 2023 was up over 15%.
Franklin says although he is frustrated with his food truck being broken into and items stolen the issue is deeper.
“On one hand, man I’m mad. Energy, time, building and on the other hand I’m sad because its like everyone should have enough where no one things have to get broken into,” he said.
Now, he hopes for more with the economic future of Memphis.
“My hope is that eventually we can get things right on the economical side where at least everyone is well right,” he said. “Where we don’t have to think about petty thefts and break-ins like this.”
A Go Fund Me was created by the director of Overton Park Shell to help get all the items back in the food truck.
