Business owners advise shopping locally as labor costs rise

DICKINSON (WBNG) — Several businesses in Broome County have shut their doors for good since the year began.

Dan Napierala, the owner of Pinkie franchises, explained to 12 News that Pinkie’s Bakery & Cafe closed its doors on Aug. 12 due to the high cost of labor.

Napierala said selling something such as a $3 cupcake became too hard as the price of labor increased. However, he added that a $6 cupcake would not sell.

Napierala said this is an example of why it’s important to shop locally.

“I encourage people to support the local businesses,” he said. “We hire local people and the money also stays here in town and it doesn’t go to some corporate entity.”

Pinkies Barbeque and Pinkies Dogs in the Town of Dickinson are still open.

Napierala thanked the community for its support.
