NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — Signals of a strong local economy are bringing optimism for the upcoming busy tourist season, though difficulties finding help in the hospitality industry remain persistent, said Joe Viele, the Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce executive director.
South County businesses are deep in their preparation stages with the pre-summer tourist influx about to start next month. Many businesses have remodeled, renovated or opened up shop in the region’s towns.
For instance, O’Reilly Auto Parts opened a store on Kingstown Road in Wakefield and Celeste, formerly Trio, completed renovations at its Narragansett location in the Pier.
After two years of planning, Tower Hill Brewing Co. has opened its doors and is ready to share their craft beers made on site and their wide-open taproom.
Management staff there said people can also bring their own food — there is no kitchen on site — to the brewery at 25 Village Square Drive in the South County Commons in Wakefield.
The South County Tourism Council is also advertising on its website (www.southcountyri.com) a number a “spring specials” at various businesses and restaurants.
