Business tidbits: New Starbucks in Selah slated to open July 1

A Starbucks drive-through and other storefronts are nearly finished in downtown Selah, with the coffee shop slated to open July 1.

Bill Harris, who owns Primrose Plaza with Jeff Wyss and Don Poston, said the exterior, fencing, parking lot and shrubbery for the building at the northwest corner of Pleasant Avenue and South First Street have been completed.

Up to three tenants could join Starbucks in the new building, and two other building sites are available — on the back end of the property, away from First Street, and a parcel with First Street frontage between the Domino’s and Starbucks that could house a 3,000-square-foot business with a drive through, such as a bank or fast-food restaurant.

“We’ve had some interest, but no confirmed new tenants at this time,” Harris said. “That’s a nice piece of property.”

The plaza at 502 S. First St. was built roughly 10 years ago and has all of its suites occupied, he added. The property at South First Street and Pleasant Avenue was the longtime location of Selah Trailer Camper Sales, owned by the Jones family.

Harris added that the design of the nearly completed building is similar to other Starbucks across the country and meets the Seattle chain’s needs for a left-hand turn entrance to the drive-thru and the space to accommodate as many as 17 cars in line. It will open in July.
