Busy holiday travel season still going strong at Burlington airport

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The busy travel season isn’t over yet at the Burlington International Airport as people head to and from their holiday plans, but many said it was smooth sailing.

“Piece of cake was really. Short flight up from D.C. and back, so it’s real fast and simple,” said Pierre Viger of Washington, D.C.

Despite some travel troubles nationally, there was plenty of holiday cheer and positivity going around Friday at the Burlington International Airport.

“We come here to hang out with family. We gather, our family gathers here from Canada, primarily. All the skiing, you know, the countryside is beautiful. I grew up in Canada. We used to come down here all the time. Just sort of tradition,” Viger said.

“Flying back in today. It was super easy. We landed a little bit early and the flight was super. Beautiful views. Nice to see the snow,” said Diane Stone of Warren.

“My wife and I live in Seattle. My family lives in Connecticut, but we always come up to Vermont for a ski trip over the holidays, so we’re at Sugarbush,” said Trevor Smith of Seattle, Washington.

Smith and his family said they had a fun time fulfilling their holiday skiing tradition at Sugarbush.

“Not crowded. A little icy here and there, but some great turns. Overall, had a great time,” Smith said.

Airport officials report few issues so far this season, though the parking garage filled up to 100% capacity, forcing them to get creative parking cars elsewhere on airport property. Despite the challenge, they were still able to meet the need.

“We’re gonna do everything we can to communicate that out as quick as possible on our social media channels and our website, so that you get the alerts like, ‘Hey, you might need a bit more time to find a parking spot and get through, check-in and TSA, et cetera,” said Jeff Bartley of the Burlington International Airport.

Airport officials still recommend travelers arrive at the airport two hours early.
