Busy Memorial Day holiday travel period underway

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The busy Memorial Day travel period is underway, and right now, many people are packing their suitcases to head out of town.

Travel experts say this could be the busiest Memorial Day weekend in more than 20 years.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is expecting 2.5 million passengers to pass through the airport during this eight-day travel period, with Friday, May 24 being the busiest day. Airport officials expect more than 100,000 travelers will go through screening checkpoints just Friday alone.

Travel experts remind travelers that getting to the airport early is super important, and to make sure they pack their patience.
