Butte County jobs down in June, up year-over-year

CHICO — The June monthly labor report by the state Employment Development Department shows a drop in employment since May, but an increase year over year for June.

Across all industries since this time last year, Butte County saw a 1.7% increase in employment from 80,400 to 81,800 with a 7.4% increase in the farm industry from 2,700 to 2,900; a 6% increase in private goods from 8,400 to 8,900; a 2.5% increase in private services from 52,900 to 54,200; and a 3.7% decrease in government services from 16,400 to 15,300.

Jobs decreased 0.6% from May to June with 500 total jobs lost in non-farm industries and no change for farming. The leisure and hospitality industry reported 100 jobs lost; other services reported 400 jobs lost, and government services reported 500 jobs lost.

Increases in employment since May were reported for the mining, logging and construction industry with 200 more jobs; manufacturing industry with 100 more jobs; trade, transportation and utilities with 100 more jobs; and private education and health services with 100 more jobs.

For its total civilian labor force, Butte County ranked 40th of the state’s 58 counties in March with a labor force of 91,400 — 86,000 employed and 5,400 unemployed, the latter a rate of 5.9%.
