California Creates Nearly One in Five New US Jobs

California added 21,100 jobs in July, accounting for nearly 20% of the nation’s new positions, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.

This marks the 51st consecutive month of job growth in the state. California also recorded a historic high in fast food employment, surpassing 750,000 jobs for the first time.

In the past year, California has generated 284,400 new jobs, reflecting a 1.6% increase. The unemployment rate remained steady at 5.2%. Four of the state’s eleven industry sectors saw job gains in July.

California leads the nation with the most Fortune 500 companies and travel spending reached $150.4 billion.

The state is home to 35 of the world’s 50 leading AI companies and leads the nation in new business starts, venture capital access, manufacturing, high-tech, and agriculture.
