Campers learn fashion, design at Camp Davis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Thursday marked the first day of summer, and kids are now in the thick of summer camps.

Project Runway has returned to Camp Davis, which has been ongoing all week at the Gordon Jewish Community Center.

The purpose ampers engage in the full process of design, from concept to fabrication.

A model was there on Thursday teaching young campers how to walk the runway. There was then a fashion show with the clothes campers have been designing and creating all week.

“The intention is to create authenticity and to teach using fashion as a vehicle for children to be creative and unique and grow confidence and learn about the world in so many ways,” said Carrie Mills, Gordon Jewish Community Center art director. “So, it’s so much more than fashion…it’s all under the umbrella of creativity.”

The camp operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. Officials say it typically fills up within 30 minutes, so there will be a waitlist.
