Cannes 2024 Fashion Report: Aditi Rao Hydari, Preity Zinta & other Indians | Filmfare.com

The Cannes Film Festival is celebrated with utmost joy as world-renowned artists from the cinematic verse come together. Acknowledging and hyping each other for the incredible work done, films that far surpass the ordinary and create magic on the celluloid. The 77th Cannes Film Festival took place between 14th May – 25th May this year. Some exceptional wins this year from India. Payal Kapadia took home the Grand Prix – which is the second-highest honour in the prestigious film festival for her film All We Imagine As Light. Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know – a short film made by Chidananda S Nair from FTII, Pune was awarded the La Cinef Award for the same. Anasuya Sengupta made India proud as she became the first Indian to win the Best Actress Award for The Shameless – it’s been a flourishing few days for Indian artists at the French Riviera.Just as how most of these International festivals go in this generation, fashion was indeed an intrinsic part of the whole shebang. Clad in couture wear or some new faces who made the moment all the more special by sporting a special attire from their wardrobe. The looks were much-discussed by fashion critics. Here’s a look at some of the best-dressed Indians we saw at the Cannes 2024 Film Festival this year, the range was indeed commendable:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

You can hate her or troll her, but you definitely can’t ignore Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as she graces the Cannes red carpet every year. She had two looks this year that grabbed eyeballs all over the world and was critiqued rather brusquely. Her first was an avant garde black and white gown with flounce sleeves and 3d golden applique work on the upper bodice. It came with a long white train with 3D golden flowers embellished on it. She kept her makeup look clean with winged liner and muted lips. Her second attire got severe backlash but that wasn’t enough to dim her confidence. It was a dramatic silver and turquoise green fringe gown. The outfit featured a fishtail hemline, extravagant sleeves with sequins and the metallic fringe work cascading down in layers from the midriff to the ends of the long train. She went for an eye-catching eyeshadow, a wavy hairdo and nude lips for her finishing touches.

Aditi Rao Hydari

Aditi too showcased two glorious looks at the Film Festival this year – while her day ensemble was more playful as she opted for a lovely floral dress printed in black, yellow and green hues. It featured a high-low silhouette along with a ruffled hemline. A chic black belt for a more cinched waistline. A messy bun, winged liner, dollops of mascara, pink lips and rosy cheeks were her glam picks. Cut to her elegant black and white gown for the red carpet. A black velvet fabric for the upper half and luxurious ivory satin drapes for the sleeves and lower half. The bodycon gown had a vintage vibe to it. She went for a dewy makeup base for this one, minimal jewellery and bare eyes completed her get-up.

She went all dreamy in her third look, a lovely pastel pink gown with a one-shouldered silhouette.  The outfit is simplicity at its best. A pinkish makeup base featuring pink lips, blushed cheek and a beachy ruffled hairdo to go with it.

Preity Zinta

The actress made a comeback to Cannes after 11 years and she sure made the moment count. Her first appearance saw her look like a vision in white, a bodycon number with a tie-detailing on the shoulders and a plunging neckline. The silhouette featured a backless finish, a floor-touching hemline and glamorous crystals studded all across the fabric. A messy bun with a dainty lock falling over her forehead, pearl earrings, shimmery eyes, nude lipstick and a glowy finish were her beauty choices. She went desi in a pastel pink sequinned saree for her red carpet appearance. A pair of emerald and silver danglers,- wavy tresses kept loose and defined eyes were the glam picks for this traditional attire.

Sobhita Dhulipala

Sobhita Dhulipala channelled her inner diva as she opted for a purple sequin jumpsuit for her first look. It had pleated detailing with intricate sequin work and a cut-out structure around the midriff. The cape sleeves and flared pants shape only added to the drama as did her voluminous curly mane, big golden hoops and a striking purple eyeshadow. Her second outfit was a golden gilded outfit in a bodycon silhouette. The shimmering golden sequin work looked glorious in the morning sun. It has a floor-sweeping hemline and a back slit. Her film All We Imagine As Light where she plays one of the leads was considered for the Palme d’or and won the Grand Prix Award. What made heads turn on the red carpet was when she graced it and showed her solidarity towards the ongoing Palestine genocide. She wore a lovely ivory dress with puffy sleeves, for accessories she opted for a watermelon clutch to show her support. For those unaware, this fruit has been considered a strong symbol of support for Palestine due to its shades of green, red and black seeds that also represent the colours of the Palestinian flag. It created a positive stir on social media. Another day look of hers that was noteworthy was a lovely floral textured dress with a matching blazer. And statement pearl studs to go with it.

Chhaya Kadam

Another talented actress, Chhaya Kadam who is also from the All We Imagine As Light cast had a sentimental attachment to her first look. She opted for a traditional Maharashtrian saree that belonged to her mother, in several interviews she mentioned how she wanted her mother to be there with her during such a momentous occasion. It was a beige and cream saree paired with a purple blouse. The nath and gajra were the traditional touches to it. Her winning outfit was an Indo-western style where she paired a white shirt with a golden and black printed skirt and a black blazer. She amped up her look with bold golden jewellery and did not let go of the nath. Her makeup was all about kohled eyes and matte lips.

She wore it with a lovely jacket and blouse that was plant-dyed and handcrafted from recycled cotton. She kept it chic with her salt-and-pepper bob haircut and statement jewels to complete her look. The Chanderi sari from her collection had the samandar leher technique incorporated in it which led to the multi-shaded outcome on the drapes. The lavender blouse was picked to complement her saree. In ways, it was an ode to Ratna Pathak Shah’s love for handlooms.
