Cannes is, well, brimming with wide-brimmed hats this year.

Anya Taylor-Joy, in town to promote “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” made headlines this week when she touched down in Nice on Monday morning in a gargantuan straw hat, paired with a burnt-orange, high-slit dress. She accessorized the ensemble with her signature red lips and cat-eye sunglasses from Oliver Peoples.

If people were giving Taylor-Joy and her absurdly large accessories a side eye earlier this week, though, it’s already become a tried-and-true trend — at least in the confines of the 77th Cannes Film Festival (one of the only festivals with a strict dress code, including a contentious high heels rule for women).

Following in the “Dune” star’s footsteps, Meryl Streep arrived to the festival on Tuesday morning in her own, slightly smaller straw hat. The beloved actor, set to receive an honorary Palm d’Or prize, paired the sun-blocking accessory with her own pair of cat-eye sunnies (made by — in Miranda Priestly fashion — none other than Prada).

Finally, Greta Gerwig made the cat-eye a certifiable trend when she arrived to a pre-festival dinner on Monday night in her own pair of upwardly-curved shades. The “Barbie” director, who presides over the festival jury as president this year, wore an olive-green khaki dress from Carven, alongside a pair of black Chanel sunglasses.
