Captains fall in walkoff fashion at Great Lakes, 4-3

The Captains took a one-run lead into the bottom of the ninth July 23 at Dow Diamond against Great Lakes.

They didn’t leave with it.

Jake Vogel’s ground-rule double brought in a pair of runs for a 4-3 Loons victory.

Reliever Zane Morehouse retired Kyle Nevin on a strikeout, but the frame went south from there for Lake County. Jake Gelof walked, Jordan Thompson reached on a Jose Devers error and Gelof and Thompson advanced on a Morehouse balk. That set the stage for Vogel’s double to win it.

Maick Collado went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Captains. Isaiah Greene doubled, and Guy Lipscomb had two steals and two runs. Lipscomb is up to 26 steals on the season.

Zach Jacobs struck out three in 1 2/3 shutout innings of relief.
