Carbon monoxide gas sickens 19 at New Albany business

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WAVE) – A total of 19 people had to be treated for possible carbon monoxide poisoning at a business in New Albany.

New Albany firefighters were called Holmes ACE Hardware at 1905 Charlestown Road around 9 a.m. after a number of people complained of being sick.

NAFD Deputy Chief Tim Kron said firefighters found a propane powered machine being used during renovation work had been left running and was putting out carbon monoxide gas. Firefighters ventilated the building and removed the machine.

Kron said eight people were taken to hospitals for treatment by EMS. The remaining 11 were treated at the scene. The injuries are not believed to be serious.

The building was declared safe after being ventilated and checked by firefighters.
