Career training program equips participants with tools to land jobs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A career training program is equipping its participants with the tools they’ll need to land the job of their dreams.

Uprise is finishing up its five-week cohort. Participants got to show off their interviewing skills with professional members of the community at West End Community Church on Wednesday.

WSMV4’s Tracy Kornet had the opportunity to work with them on advancing their skills once they’re called for an interview.

Over the last month, the 50 participants completed activities to enhance their job skills including elevator pitches.

“We know the workforce is the biggest thing going in our city right now and everybody needs the opportunity,” said Al Brady, the group’s director of admission and recruiting. “We’re so happy to have partners like you and an opportunity to help Nashvillians move into a new career with upward mobility.”

Over the last month, participants have worked on everything from job skills to conflict resolution.

“We get people in the city who are committed to doing something different, people from Nashville exponentially grow,” said Brady.

The organization has grown more than 30% since it first launched seven years ago. More than 600 people applied for its summer cohort, hoping to land one of the 60 spots.
