Carson City Community Crime Prevention Coalition aims to prevent business-related crime

A new program within the Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is hoping to prevent business-related crime in the area. The CCSO is forming a coalition of local businesses to share data together and help combat business-related crime.

The Community Crime Prevention Partnership is seeking a number of types of businesses including retail establishments, supermarkets, banks, casinos and more.

“Any business that brings people into it are potentially the target of crime. So yes, there’s been a nationwide spike in retail crime. However, it’s come time now for our office to form a coalition with these businesses and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce to kind of open those lines of communication between the businesses in our community and the sheriff’s office,” Criminal Investigations Bureau Supervisor at the CCSO Sgt. Brett Bindley said.

As well as sharing crime data with each other, Bindley said participating businesses will have access to anti-crime trainings and other crime prevention-related information from the sheriff’s office.

It’s free for businesses to join.

“Through a tiered approach, we can set up meetings probably near the end of January or the first week in February, where we can invite representatives of these businesses into the sheriff’s office, where we can network, we can share information, we can give crime prevention information,” Sgt. Bindley said.

Anyone interested can join the Crime Prevention Coalition by email RTIC@carson.org or by calling 775-283-7971.
