No. 8 national seed Florida State baseball will remain in Omaha, Nebraska, after defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 7-3 in an elimination game at the 2024 College World Series Sunday afternoon.

The Seminoles advance to face the loser of the Tennessee-North Carolina game on Tuesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at Charles Schwab Stadium.

FSU starter Carson Dorsey was superb on the mound against the Cavs, pitching into the eighth inning. He scattered nine hits and finished with seven strikeouts on 106 pitches.

Jaime Ferrer sparked the FSU crowd with two home runs and four RBI. Alex Lodise followed up with a leadoff solo homer to push FSU’s advantage to 7-0.

Virginia, the first team bounced from the eight-team, double-elimination tournament, out-hit FSU 10-7 but couldn’t overcome the Seminoles.

UVA’s pitcher starter Jay Woolfolk tweaked his right knee after the first homer. Joe Savino came in to relieve Woolfolk in the bottom fourth.

The Cavaliers saw some momentum in the seventh inning with two runs on back-to-back singles.

With Brennan Oxford in relief, the Cavaliers added another run on an RBI double by Anthony Stephan with two outs in the eighth inning.

A double play orchestrated by Lodise completed the game for FSU.
