Celebrities in Coach at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards

At the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards, Charles Melton and Kelsea Ballerini presented the Innovation Award, sponsored by Amazon Fashion, to Coach for its Coachtopia initiative. Creative Director Stuart Vevers accepted the award, celebrating Coach’s commitment to sustainable fashion.

Coach global ambassador Charles Melton, along with GloRilla, Kelsea Ballerini, Coco Jones, and Ella Emhoff, showcased custom Coach looks, each crafted from upcycled or repurposed materials by Vevers.

Harnessing Coach’s heritage of craftsmanship, each piece used post-consumer materials or scraps reimagined into fresh designs, a testament to the brand’s focus on circularity and sustainable design. This innovative approach reflects Coach’s commitment to reducing environmental impact through intentional, resourceful design practices.

Charles Melton’s Coach ensemble featured an oversized suede coat, vest, and trousers crafted from vintage suede jackets and pants. This look balanced classic archetypal garments with proportions that align with modern, youthful styling. The worn-in look adds a subtle character, exuding a sense of effortless, lived-in luxury.

Kelsea Ballerini wore a Coach shirting dress patched together from heritage materials, including vintage flannel and cotton shirts. Though reminiscent of a “coat of many colours,” the home-crafted aesthetic here feels slightly kitsch compared to the more subtle innovation seen in Charles’s look.

Coco Jones’ Coach tuxedo dress, crafted from vintage leather jackets, felt authentic to her style and red-carpet persona. The understated use of upcycled materials gave the look sophistication, showcasing how sustainable fashion can still feel luxurious.

Ella Emhoff’s Coach look, crafted with an artisan from upstate New York, delivered a quirky, eclectic charm. The oversized bow—a Coach signature seen on Storm Reid and America Ferrera—was crafted from scrap yarn knit accenting Ella’s skirt crafted from deadstock fabric. And her wool top re-spun from deconstructed knit garments was embellished with repurposed beads and sequins.

GloRilla brought an edge to the lineup in a repurposed leather moto Coach jacket, reimagined from vintage jackets. However, the bralette and boyshorts didn’t quite resonate; while the jacket itself is an iconic American staple, the rest of her outfit wasn’t.
