Celestine Jane Parker Barrus

Celestine Jane Parker Barrus, 88, of Fredonia, NY passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024 surrounded by her family at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, after a brief illness.

Celestine, born on Jan. 14, 1936 was the daughter of the late William and Lorraine Parker.

Celestine, who went by her middle name Jane, was known by most as “Gramma Jane.” She lived her entire life in Fredonia. She married the love of her life, Joseph Barrus on July 1, 1978. She was a homemaker and worked on Bar-Crest dairy farm with her husband and continued to work on the farm after his death. Jane loved her large family baking, and was well known for her “Gramma’s Biscuits” that none of the family could make the same, even with her helping them and her baked beans were legendary. They were always requested at any gathering. Jane always looked forward to family and friend get togethers, whether it was an event, a holiday, or just a Sunday dinner.

Jane is survived by her step-children: Judy (Barry) Clark of Fredonia, Jeannie (Mike) Storey, of Stockton, Randy (Sue) Barrus of Doylestown, Ohio and Janice Gee of Fredonia; 13 step-grandchildren; 28 step-great-grandchildren; 29 step-great-great grandchildren and two step-great-great-great grandchildren, one brother, one sister, several nieces and nephews and many special “other” children also survive.

Besides her parents, Celestine Jane was predeceased by her husband, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild, and several siblings.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY. on Tuesday, July 2 from 5-7 pm and from 10-11 am on Wednesday, July 3 with the funeral services being led by Pastor Richard Hamilton at 11am. Interment will be at the Laona Cemetery in Fredonia.
