Central Florida Coach Used Player Funds for OnlyFans, Vacations, Gambling

A Central Florida coach has been arrested in a scheme to defraud investigation that found he used player funds for OnlyFans subscriptions, personal vacations, and gambling.

In December of 2023, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Tropical Escape Vacation Homes that Coach Roderick Wilmont rented three of their Champions Gate vacation homes for his post-grad prep basketball program, Mont Sports Academy.

Basketball players worldwide travel to Central Florida to participate in Coach Wilmont’s program, where they play at the Florida Sun Conference. Coach Wilmont’s basketball players occupied the Champions Gate rental properties for several months. Coach Wilmont initially made small deposits and partial payments for the rental properties but had endless excuses for not being able to make total payments on time.

After checking out, Coach Wilmont failed to pay for the total rental cost and ultimately owed the business over nineteen thousand dollars. Coach Wilmont told the company the money was wired and transferred to their bank account. However, the business never provided instructions on how to send money to their bank account. When the business asked additional questions in an effort to identify the wire transaction, Coach Wilmont became uncooperative with them.

Westgate Resorts was also a victim of Coach Wilmont, who rented several rooms on their property for the players and failed to pay the outstanding balance of over seven thousand dollars. Members from Westgate Resort have contacted Coach Wilmont several times to obtain payment and have yet to receive a cooperation.

Detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Tourism Policing Unit obtained Coach Wilmont’s financial records, which show that parents of the players were sending him thousands of dollars each month for “tuition” in the program, which includes funds for housing, transportation, gym/practice rentals, food, and other related costs.

Some months, Coach Wilmont would have deposits of forty-five thousand dollars into his bank account, according to law enforcement. A review of his banking records revealed that instead of paying for the housing he obtained for the players, he was spending thousands of dollars each month on gambling, personal vacations, and OnlyFans subscriptions.

Roderick Wilmont was arrested for two counts of Scheme to Defraud and two counts of Defrauding an Innkeeper.
