QUINCY (WGEM) – Quincy’s central services provided an update on projects around the city itself for this summer.

Pothole repairs and bigger projects are to be completed during the summer.

The summer heat also proves a difficult challenge as crews try to stay cool from the hot temperatures.

Officials said that they are playing it safe with their workers in this heat.

“So far, we’ve just been mainly telling them to take extra breaks when they need to. Stay hydrated, we haven’t done it yet this year, but in years past we have also offered them Gatorade and stuff like that as we deliver them on the job sites,” said Central Services Director Kevin McClean.

Central Services will be out actively refilling and repairing potholes across Quincy, as well as trimming trees.

McClean asked residents to be cautious while driving to keep workers safe.

“I know that it may be an inconvenience, but everybody wants the potholes filled. When those guys are out and you see them, avoid getting right up behind them. It probably makes them feel pressured and try to hurry so just give them a break and watch for our guys,” said McClean.
