Charleston ranks in top 10 cities for summer jobs

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A new report places Charleston towards the top among 180 markets for people looking for summer jobs.

The personal finance website WalletHub released its picks for the 20 top cities for summer jobs and Charleston ranked eighth place on that list. WalletHub compared the markets across 21 key metrics that ranged from median income of part-time workers to the availability of summer jobs to commuter-friendliness.

Charleston was the only South Carolina city to rank among the top 20.

“It’s a great time to get a summer job, considering that a lot of places are still having labor shortages and may increase their compensation as a result,” WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe said. “In addition to good pay and good work conditions, the best cities for summer jobs also have attractive features like short commute times and fun activities to engage in outside of work.”

The report ranked the Holy City in fourth place in youth jobs but in 101st place in social environment and affordability.

Columbia, Maryland, which ranked at the top of the list overall, was also first place in youth jobs and 33rd place in social environment and affordability; San Francisco came in first in the social environment and affordability ranking but 163rd in youth jobs.
