Chasing a world record: Midlands natives visit every national park in 15 days

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – For some people, life is all about adventure.  Many may not realize that adventure starts when you walk out the front door.  And, no matter where you live, there’s something new and exciting for anyone to find.

Mark and Andy Wilson are living proof of that fact, as the father and son embarked on a journey of a lifetime. They visited every National Park in the contiguous United States.

“We used to visit the same national parks year after year,” explained the younger Wilson, Andy. “We just wanted to see them all.” Andy looked towards his father. “I think Dad just got dragged into it.” Mark laughed. “No,’ he rebutted, “I wanted to do it.”

They did it all in just 15 days, setting a record for the fastest travel time. Through all that time away from home and loved ones, they say they just needed each other.

“The fun part of it was traveling with my son,” said Mark. “But, it was also seeing things I’ve never seen before.”

Andy was the pilot, while Mark enjoyed the ride. The two conquered the record together, meeting new friends along the way.

“We met a lot of amazing people,” said Andy. “You don’t know how long you have, and every day is a blessing. Make the time to have an incredible experience and make memories you won’t forget.”

The pair’s message to the world is simple: whether it’s flying across the country, or just taking a trip down the road to your favorite nature spot, beauty is everywhere.

No distance or age can change that.
