Cheap flights from Phoenix: 11 cities where you can fly for 0 or less in October

Airfares are forecast to increase in October from last month as the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays come closer, but travel deals can still be found.

New data from Hopper, the travel website that tracks airfares, showed 11 domestic routes out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with round-trip airfares of $100 or less for October 2024.

October falls within the fall shoulder season, the time between Labor Day and Thanksgiving when the cost of travel typically is lower because of slower bookings, Hopper’s lead economist Hayley Berg said. But prices also start to rise in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving as consumer demand shifts to holiday travel.

Here’s where you can find cheap flights from Phoenix in October 2024.

Is October a cheap month to fly?

October is more expensive to fly than September, though it’s cheaper than November and December — and cheaper than it was to fly the same month in 2023, Berg said in a recent forecast.

The average round-trip plane ticket will cost $253 in October, up 5% from $240 in September but down 7% from October 2023, Berg said.

The 11 domestic routes Hopper tracked with fares below $100 round trip is the lowest number of destinations with cheap base fares from Phoenix since February, when Hopper tracked 10 routes under $100.

Where is the cheapest place to fly to in October?

Hopper expects San Diego, a favorite vacation spot that offers the closest U.S. beaches to Arizona, will have the lowest round-trip base fares for October with prices as low as $50.

Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City also offer fares below $60; flights to all three cities routinely rank as some of the cheapest from Sky Harbor.

The Arizona Republic found round-trip base fares with Frontier Airlines as low as $43 for Phoenix-San Diego itineraries from Oct. 24-30.

Fares as low as $42 for Las Vegas and $48 for Los Angeles and Salt Lake City were advertised for several dates in October.

Be aware that ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier and Spirit charge low base fares with additional fees for seat assignments, carry-on and checked bags and other amenities.
