Chester: Month of celebrations of ‘world’s oldest shopping arcade’
A month-long festival will celebrate one of the world’s oldest and most historic shopping arcades.
Chester’s famous medieval Rows, which date back to the 13th century, will be showcased in ‘Rowvember’, led by Chester Heritage Festival, in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, and archaeologist, James Dixon.
It will focus on the history, heritage and business community of the popular architectural attraction.
The free events, designed to help visitors explore the elevated walkways in a new light, will run throughout November.
Councillor Lisa Denson said: “The Rows are not just a shopping destination – they’re a living piece of medieval history that continues to thrive in our modern city.
“Rowvember is our opportunity to showcase these remarkable structures and the wonderful businesses that call them home.”
The festival will include guided tours, treasure hunts, cultural performances consisting of film screenings, pop-up choirs, dance performances and more.
